How can I avoid tax from a cash merger ?
Q. I have shares of a private company which was acquired for cash by a public company in Jan 07. A check for about $30k will be mailed to me soon for my shares. What is the best way to avoid as much tax as possible ? I am self employed but don't know how much money I will earn this year. So for example, can I put all of the $30k into my sep ira thereby avoid paying tax on it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A. It is really too late. The contribution to the SEP will help reduce taxes but you may not be able to contribute very much. You should get some help from a competent tax advisor like a CPA.

How do you avoid depression when a military boyfriend is away?
Q. I'm thankful that he is not deployed, I don't know how I would handle that, but my boyfriend is in the Army and is across the country for several months. How can I avoid the depression while he is gone? Living in a seemingly empty apartment now, how can I fill the void that seems to suck the life right out of me? Any suggestions that avoid getting pets would be so helpful.

A. You keep busy. Sign up for some classes at the local college. Go to the gym, hang out with friends, meet some new friends. Life when he is away him should be just like life before him (with the exception of looking to meet someone). What did you do before you guys met? Didd you go bowling with friends? See a lot of movies? Just do anything and everything that sounds like fun and stay busy. You may even want to try something like taking a cooking class to be able to make new recipes to impress him when he gets back. Just remember that sitting home crying does no one any good. He's not your life, he is a part of it. Make a point to get up every day with a good attitude that this day will be fun and make it happen. If you plan on marrying… [cont.]

How do i avoid a hangover tomorrow morning?
Q. Tonight i am going out for a friends 18th. The only problem is i have a football match tomorrow morning so i want to avoid getting a hangover! I am planning on getting smashed so what must i be doing now and after to avoid the hangover!
Asked by Jakey - Fri Nov 27 11:11:00 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Been there, lived that! Drink lots of water or Powerade before you start drinking. Your body needs to be fully hydrated because the alcohol dehydrates you and that's what causes a lot of the hang-over effects. Try and drink a glass/bottle of water every drink or two. Also, do NOT take Tylenol after drinking. Here's why: "While it may be alright to take a couple of aspirin to deal with a hangover, don't take a couple of acetaminophen (Tylenol) tablets. Alcohol with acetaminophen is a recipe for potentially lethal liver damage." Good luck!

How do dental professionals avoid carpal tunnel, muscluloskeletal strain, and other health issues?
Q. I have not yet entered the dental field, but it is something I am very interested in. During one of the information sessions I attended, our speaker mentioned one male hygienist that started every day of class with 1000mg of ibuprofen to combat the pain in his hands. We were also briefed that back, neck, shoulder and wrist problems were a very real possibility. How prevalent are these issues, and is there any way to avoid it? If you cannot avoid it, is it possible to continue your work healthily?
Asked by J B - Sat May 10 15:43:39 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. As a dental educator I constantly stressed proper posture and technique. Some students just would not adopt the proper techneques and I am sure that they will regret it later. Some were severely hunched over working on their patients. After being corrected, I would check back a while later and there they were back to their old posture. Thus said, some people just have anatomy which is not strong enough for the work required. Not that physical strength is needed, just the ability to do repetitive things for long periods of time. Many dentists I know have back problems etc and many hygienists, even some of the educators I know have problems with carpal tunnel syndrom. Perhaps it is just not avoidable.

A. There was a lad in London who in fact was 19 but looked 14. He was constantly getting stopped and eventually to local police chief inspector gave him a letter proving his age. It didn't stop him getting stopped but shortened the time he was stopped for. The local police obviously knew him so he didn't get stopped by them much (after the first 20 times).

Can you avoid being in an car accident even if you are good driver?
Q. Can you avoid being killed or injured in a car crash if you are a defensive driver, remain vigilant, and is always in your mirrors watching out for other dangerous drivers while driving on the roads? Or is there just no way to escape a dangerous driver? Also does seat belts help to protect you? I ask this question because I am going to begin taking drivers training lessons soon and would just like to know. I'd appreciate it alot.

A. If you are careful and avoid situations involving idiot drivers you can avoid almost all accidents. However sooner or later you will be in one that is not your fault. Think about all those trucks that were in that chain reaction I-5 tunnel collision. No matter how great the guy in the middle truck was he was guaranteed to be involved when the vehicle ahead of him slammed into another one and stopped and the guy behind him kept going until it hit his truck. I was in myself this summer where I was in a line of cars stopped for a red light and the car behind me slammed into my car because that driver had no idea that 10 cars in front of her had been stopped for a while waiting for that light to turn. As far as seat belts all you have to… [cont.]

How to avoid over heating a laptop ideas?
Q. It just keeps over heating and i find myself having to cool it down by waving a pillow or fan over it for a certain amount of times. Is there anything i should do to avoid overheating?
Asked by livIV - Wed Feb 4 14:36:08 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If the laptop has power options in the control panel- put it on a low power state. After this, purchase a laptop cooling pad which is very effective with underside fans which simply run off the USB's. They are cheap and convenient and there is a wide choice. Also, if you are confident with the working parts of your laptop and don't mind voiding the warranty, take the back off your laptop and clean out the fans and get rid of any dust carefully.

How to avoid stringy eggplant when baked?
Q. I am making eggplant salad and it requires the eggplant be baked. Whenever I make this salad, the eggplant comes out stringy, no matter how long I beat/mash it or no matter how long I bake it for. Does anyone know how to avoid stringy eggplant when baked then mashed? Dumb Question: How do you choose a ripe eggplant?

A. My only advice would to be more selective on the eggplants at the store. They will all have fibers but if they are ripe enough it should be less annoying.

If you poke holes through the skin and baste the meat under the skin you will be able to wring out the breasts they'll be so wet. I baste every ten minutes (or every time out during a football game). You should wait to season the (breast side up) turkey till after the juice is boiling and you have basted it then with the wetness on the skin sprinkle on all your seasoning and put back in the oven. when you get it out to baste it the next time all the seasoning is now baked on and won't wash away during the bastings that follow. after the first hour use a couple of pieces of tin foil shaped like ice… [cont.]

A. If this kid thinks you guys are friends, it will inevitably hurt him a little that you don't want to be friends. It sounds like you don't want to entirely cut him off (maybe I'm wrong), so I suggest not putting yourself in places you can avoid where you will have to hang out with him for extended periods and make sure you have reasons to not hang out other times. If you don't put yourself out there he will at some point get the picture.

If you don't put yourself out there he will at some point get the picture.

How to avoid taking roaches with you to your new place?
Q. I have roaches in my clean apartment! Any tips on how to avoid taking them with you when moving? I have a computer do you think they will hide in there?

A. Just hire an exterminator to treat your apartment for roaches. But choose an exterminator that uses gel to treat for roaches. You really need to treat for Roaches once per month. You will need to treat two or three time. The gel lasts longer. The reason you need to treat two or three times is to kill any baby roaches that can emerge even if the adults are dead. All the roaches should be dead by then. If you are moving then have your new place treated with gel too. That way any roaches you bring with you will die off.

How to avoid fraud and scammer when looking for suppliers in China?
Q. How to avoid fraud and scammer when looking for suppliers in Asia, especially in China? May I have your suggestion? For I already got cheated before, it is not much, but it already freaked me out!

A. I side with willingtohelp~~~ Willingtohelp is great, his ideas are quite useful. But besides the payments you need to care about, I think the most important thing is to locate a community consisted of reliable suppliers. Avoiding the fraud and cheat is not your final goal, your destination is to find some reliable manufacturers who can share a long-term business relationship with you. So, in this case, you can check Because all the suppliers here are real manufacturers and verified with GMC (Global Manufacturer Certificate) audited by Intertek and TUV. GMC (Global Manufacturer Certificate) Standards: 1. Certified Manufacturer: Ownership or leasehold of the factory, or ownership of Private Brands 2. High Qualified Productivity: [cont.]

How to avoid groups of mosquitoes lingering around sidewalks each night?
Q. I like to walk during sunset and boat loads of mosquitoes are out in little social groups at "eye level" and they attack my face as Im passing through on the sidewalk. How can I get around this without giving up walks? How do I avoid them? They ruin life. They dont bite cause as soon as i realize im in the midst of them I bolt off running like a nutcase to onlookers. It takes the peacefulness out of the walk to say the least.

A. Most likely they're not mosquitoes, but midges or some other small insect in mating swarms. Not much you can do but walk around them.
